The Pacific Symphony has announced that tenor George Gray will sing the role of Waldemar in Schoenberg’s “Gurrelieder” at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa May 19 and
20. Gray, 40, who has appeared on several occasions with the Los Angeles Philharmonic under conductors Kurt Sanderling and Michael Tilson Thomas, will replace Metropolitan Opera tenor James
McCracken, who died last Friday at age 61 of complications from a stroke. Gray is scheduled to sing Waldemar in August in Berlin, Vienna and Frankfurt with Claudio Abbado and the European
Youth Orchestra. The YMF Debut Orchestra will not join the Pacific Symphony for “Gurrelieder” in Costa Mesa, as had been announced. MORE TO READ
