Pasadena : Mini-Mall Curbs Approved

The Board of Directors has approved a proposal aimed at controlling what Director Rick Cole calls mini-mall blight. The measure would require mini-malls to undergo a stricter design review

process, dedicate no more than 50% of their space to restaurants, have sidewalks at least six feet wide and provide a minimum of four parking spaces for every 1,000 square feet of store

space.

The board also asked the Planning Department to investigate ways to prohibit new mini-malls by requiring all parking for mixed-retail developments to be at the back. Most of the mini-malls

in Southern California concentrate their retail outlets and restaurants into less than 45,000 square feet and have parking in front.
