Children exposed to community violence still exhibit a physical stress response up to a year later which may have long-term negative health consequences. High levels of cortisol in the


bloodstream can lead to lowered immunity, arthritis andatypical depression. If parents and other adults are available to discuss episodes of violence with children, it might help the
