ABSTRACT IN the course of some experiments involving the addition of solutions of sulphydryl inhibitors to cultures of _Paramecium bursaria_, it was noticed that a wide range of response was


obtained from concentrations just below a lethal level. Further examination has shown that the period of survival of any one culture when exposed to a given concentration of a sulphydryl
