Last month, Theresa Phan stood in a line of photographers on the Huntington Beach shore, waiting for golden hour. Phan had checked the surf reports earlier that day and learned it would be
low tide at sunset, which is her favorite time to shoot. As evidenced on her Instagram account, Phan says she typically loves to share photos of the beaches in Southern California and convey
their “quiet beauty and soulfulness.” But rather than focus on the dramatic skies this time, Phan was more intrigued by the light bouncing off the small rippling effect. “The ebb and flow
of the waves brought out interesting textural elements in the sand,” she said. “The lone silhouette appearing at the right time and place brought out a sense of scale and quietude that I am
always looking to convey in my photographs.” The image was made with an iPhone 6 and later processed in Snapseed and VSCO cam. Tag and/or follow Trishna Patel on Twitter and Instagram
