A 48-year-old transient was jailed after a standoff during which he was doused with pepper spray and tackled by four deputies, authorities said Wednesday. Salvador Stuto was booked on
suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly walking down Ojai Avenue about 7 p.m. Tuesday and threatening to kill people with a 4-inch kitchen knife, authorities said. Ventura
County sheriff’s deputies found Stuto at a gas station on Drown Avenue and spent several minutes trying to talk him into dropping the knife, Sheriff’s Sgt. Bob Young said. After about 10
minutes, Stuto sat down and placed the knife next to him but allegedly continued to be hostile and refused to comply with orders. Police then sprayed, tackled and handcuffed him, authorities
said. No one was injured, and Stuto remained in jail late Wednesday in lieu of $20,000 bail. MORE TO READ
