Pico-union : redevelopment plans to be aired

The draft of a five-year implementation plan will be considered for two redevelopment zones at a public hearing Monday by the city Community Redevelopment Agency. The 6 p.m. hearing in the

auditorium of 10th Street Elementary School, 1000 Grattan Ave. at the corner of Olympic Boulevard, will solicit public comment on proposals for the area, project manager Maxine Chavez said.

The five-year proposal for the zones designated Pico-Union I and II includes plans for commercial corridor revitalization; a large-family development with community space at Connecticut and

Albany streets; a residential rehabilitation program; a supermarket near Pico Boulevard and Alvarado Street, and a mixed-use project at 1115 Alvarado St. that will house offices for the

Central American Resource Center, Chavez said. The Pico-Union I redevelopment zone is bounded by Olympic Boulevard on the north, the Santa Monica Freeway on the south, the Harbor Freeway on

the east and Union and Burlington avenues on the west. Pico-Union II shares the same north and south boundaries, but is bounded by Union and Burlington avenues on the east and Hoover Street
