The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has assigned a motorcycle patrol to the Palos Verdes Peninsula for the first time.
Deputy Andrew Parrott of the Lomita sheriff’s station patrols in Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates during the day Monday through Friday.
Traffic Sgt. Thomas Thomas said although accident rates on the peninsula have decreased for three years, the cities requested a motorcycle patrol to cut down on response time.
“If there’s an accident, the road’s basically shut down until it’s cleaned up, and if (the officer is) in a regular car, he’s stuck in traffic like everybody else,” Thomas said.
