In an effort to increase their visibility in Echo Park and Silver Lake, Los Angeles police officers are patrolling the area on bicycle. Northeast Division officers Joe Writer and Ray Garcia
are riding through the areas once a week and plan to increase the frequency of the patrols. The days and times of the patrols vary. Pioneer Market has donated office space at their Sunset
Boulevard store to police. Eleven officers assigned to the area can file reports there and do other administrative work, cutting down on travel time to the Northeast Division station on San
Fernando Road and allowing better police coverage in Echo Park and Silver Lake, police said. For more information on the bike patrol and other community-based policing programs, call Writer
at (213) 847-3139. MORE TO READ
