LA PALMA — A motorist was killed and burned beyond recognition early Sunday when his car apparently went out of control and slammed into a freeway bridge abutment on the westbound Artesia
Freeway, authorities said. The vehicle, a 1983 Mazda RX-7, left skid marks that indicated it had been traveling at a high rate of speed about 1:40 a.m. when it spun out of control then
struck a curb, a guardrail and finally the bridge abutment at the Walker Street overpass, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Jim Jackson said. By the time Highway Patrol officers arrived, the
car was in flames and the driver was burned beyond recognition, Jackson said. Authorities have not identified the victim. MORE TO READ
