Weather turns quirky in county with drizzle, national high of 76

Orange County lived up to Southern California’s reputation for weird Tuesday when the nation’s high temperature was reported here on the same day that drizzle fell throughout the county. The

high temperature recorded by the National Weather Service was 76 degrees, shared by Anaheim, San Gabriel and Miami. At the same time, rain too skimpy to show up on meteorologists’ computers

dampened the area. About a quarter-inch of rainfall is expected in Orange County this morning, tapering off by late afternoon, said Steve Burback, a meteorologist with the WeatherData Inc.,

which provides forecasts for The Times. Cooler temperatures also are on the way, dipping to the low 60s today. By Thursday, winds of 15 to 30 m.p.h. also are expected, with temperatures

dropping to the upper 50s. Friday will bring fair skies and slightly warmer temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s, Burback said. Although Tuesday’s high was above normal for this time of

year, it is not unusual. “It’s about 5 to 10 degrees higher, but temperatures have reached into the 70s in the area before,” Burback said. MORE TO READ
