MANAGUA, Nicaragua — The leftist Sandinista government evacuated all of its diplomats from El Salvador after they received death threats, a diplomat said Saturday. The six diplomats and
their families arrived in Nicaragua after being recalled temporarily, according to Norman Lacayo, charge d’affaires at the Nicaraguan Embassy in San Salvador. “This doesn’t signify a break
in relations but a precaution because of death threats that we were constantly receiving over the telephone,” Lacayo told reporters at the Managua airport. “Furthermore, we saw unidentified
armed men around the embassy who acted threateningly.” Foreign Ministry officials said they believe the threats came from right-wing death squads. Lacayo did not say when the envoys will
return to El Salvador. MORE TO READ
