The higher postage stamp prices that took effect April 3 boosted the Postal Service out of the red, the agency reported. The mail service said it had net income of $48 million for the
quarter between March 12 and June 3. In the same quarter a year earlier, the agency had lost $171 million. Senior Assistant Postmaster General Comer S. Coppie said quarterly revenue was 1.6%
higher than expected, primarily because the new rates took effect a week earlier than planned and mail volume was higher than anticipated. In addition, the Postal Service received $10
