Call it a pre-Summit musical summit. American singer-songwriter David Pomeranz and Soviet rocker Sasha Malinin quietly recorded a duet in the Soviet Union in June that will be shipped to
radio stations on Monday. Vocals on “Far Away Lands,” were recorded in Los Angeles and in a Moscow recording studio--on one side in English, the flip side in Russian. Pomeranz has written
songs for Barry Manilow, Kenny Rogers and Bette Midler; Malinin sang with the Stas Namin Band, the only Russian rockers ever allowed to tour the U.S., but has since formed a new band called
Metronome. The song, which came from Pomeranz’s involvement in 1986’s Soviet-American collaborative play “The Peace Child,” carries a theme of brotherhood and peace.
