Three people were seriously injured and a San Clemente man was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving after two sports cars collided at high speed Sunday in Capistrano Beach, the
Highway Patrol reported. Douglas Leon Garrett, 24, was traveling south on Coast Highway near Beach Road at about 4:25 p.m. when he apparently swerved his Saab Turbo over the double yellow
line and collided with a northbound Triumph TR-7, CHP Officer Ken Daily said. Garrett, who was unhurt, was arrested at the scene and booked into Orange County Jail on $10,000 bail. The
driver of the Triumph, Todd R. Sopcich, 22 of San Clemente, had head and abdominal injuries and was taken to Mission Community Hospital in Mission Viejo, where he was listed in critical
condition Monday. His passenger, Michael Musselman, 21, of San Clemente, was listed in serious condition at the hospital. Myrna Garrett, 26, of San Clemente, a passenger in the Saab, was
also listed in serious condition at the hospital. MORE TO READ
