Gov. George Deukmejian visited the site of the Cerritos air tragedy Monday, where he said, “Public safety agencies performed admirably. . . .” “On behalf of my wife and the people of
California, we extend our deepest sympathies to those who lost relatives in this horrible disaster.” the governor said. Deukmejian said he has special ties to Cerritos because he once
represented the area as a state senator. He promised that the state will do what it can to help, although he said he has not been asked to declare it a state disaster area. Separately, Los
Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley issued a statement Monday, saying: “All Los Angeles mourns the victims of yesterday’s Aeromexico crash, and I want to express my heartfelt sympathies to their
families and friends. “This terrible tragedy will, I trust, prompt a thorough examination by the federal government of how future mid-air collisions can be prevented, not only in Los
Angeles, but at every airport in the nation.” MORE TO READ
