Former director general of police Shesh Paul Vaid Friday said he would be glad to see end of the “cycle of death” in which young boys are losing lives.
He said his transfer to the post of transport commissioner was purely the prerogative of the government and since he was a government servant he would enjoy the new posting equally well.
“My concern is the cycle of death in Kashmir should stop. I would be glad when this cycle would end. There can be no good news for me other than this if it happens,” Vaid told a gathering of
media persons here.
He said he took over the charge of J&K’s police chief in 2016, when situation in Kashmir was very bad.
“Thank god, when I took over, the situation gradually started improving and today we have a better situation compared,” he said.
He thanked the entire police force and intelligence agencies for cooperating with him during the past one-and-a-half year.
J&K’s principal secretary home RK Goyal in a late night order on Thursday ordered the transfer of Vaid and appointment of Dilbagh Singh as new DGP of the state.
Singh, a 1987 batch IPS officer, already holds the charge of director general prisons and fire and emergency.
A source in the home department said Vaid was removed from his post only because of the “mishandling of recent abductions of relations of policemen in southern Kashmir.”
At least 11 policemen and their relatives were abducted by the militants. Twelve hours later, Hizbul Mujahideen commander Riyaz Naikoo announced the release of all and asked police to “mend
its ways” and to clarify whether they would continue to “harass” the families of militants.
Earlier, additional director general of police (CID) Abdul Gani Mir was transferred from his post and B Srinivasan was appointed as the new ADGP CID.
