The Met Office has warned Britain could get “quite chilly” next week with the overall trend until early November expected to be “colder than average”. A weather map from WXCHARTS indicates

freezing temperatures could strike Britain, with forecasters warning a surge of freezing arctic air could move in from the North Pole through the next fortnight. WXCHARTS tweeted the weather

graph and said: “Both ECMWF and GFS 00z runs agree on a potential Northerly blast across Europe, but where, is still uncertain. Both show a very similar pattern with a high pressure

sandwiched between 2 low-pressure systems. “If you want cold in the UK, then you would want ECM to be correct.” The Met Office long range forecast warned of bitterly cold October nights with

frosts and several misty mornings likely. BBC Weather has also said stormy weather will strike Britain towards the end of the month. The BBC long-range forecast said: "The final few

days of October may continue to see a threat of some stormy weather developing across the northern half of the country, but especially Scotland. “Strong, blustery winds and more persistent

rain could also spread south to all parts of the country for a time.” Some forecasters have even warned of severe snowfall at the end of the month, with temperatures set to plummet even

further. WeatherAction’s Piers Corbyn said: “We are expecting some quite severe snowfall before the end of this month and it will not just be confined to the far north, this could reach

parts of the Midlands or even further south. “This spell of very cold weather looks like bringing substantial snow to a more widespread area of the country than people would necessarily

expect at this time of year. “We are also forecasting some very low temperatures, we could see the record for October broken this year.” Exacta Weather forecaster James Madden said

temperatures will nosedive over the next week before the first winter blast hits next month. He said: “Temperatures will drop and the risk of snow will rise considerably towards the end of

this month and into the start of November. “There is a chance we could see blizzards developing over higher ground particularly in northern parts of the country. “Even parts of central and

southern England may be at risk of some wintry weather during the final part of this month although here it is not expected to be as significant. “However this first taste of winter will

pave the way for the first major snow of the season during November and this will reach lower levels of the country. “There is high confidence at this stage that wintery weather will hold

out through the second half of November and into December.”
