Emiliano Sala died on January 21 after the plane he was flying to Wales from his previous club Nantes crashed in the English Channel. Sala was a Nantes FC player between 2015 and 2019 and
was sold to Cardiff City in January 2019, but never got to play for the club. The 28-year-old Argentinian was the Bluebirds record signing of £15m. WHEN IS THE CARDIFF CITY DEADLINE? Cardiff
City and Nantes have agreed to extend the deadline on the first instalment of the £15m transfer fee for Emiliano Sala until February 27. The Premier League club was asked to make the first
payment to Nantes on February 20, but the clubs later agreed to delay. The transfer fee will be spread over three years. READ MORE: EMILIANO SALA: NANTES FINED BY FRENCH LEAGUE FOR TRIBUTE
TO STRIKER AFTER HE DIED HOW MUCH DO CARDIFF HAVE TO PAY? Cardiff will pay the French club €6m (£5.27m) in the first instalment of the transfer fee. Earlier this month Nantes asked for
clarification regarding the payment from Sala’s transfer fee after Cardiff held off paying the first instalment. The Bluebirds had agreed to pay a club-record £15m to sign forward Sala
during the January transfer window. The club said they were holding off paying Sala’s former club until “all facts are clear” about his disappearance. Nantes wrote to Cardiff on 5 February
with a request for the first of three instalments to be paid. If next week's deadline is not met, then the dispute could be referred to world football's governing body Fifa. James
Earl, a partner at legal firm Fladgate LLP, told the Daily Mail the transfer contract would have involved Cardiff committing to pay the fee, regardless of the horrible crash, meaning they
will have to pay. He said: "If they had entered into an agreement with the company who own or lease the plane, then yes they could. "But they did not do so and would struggle to
prove that a duty of care was owed to them." Sala's body was recovered from the crash site and his funeral took place in Argentina on 16 February. The aircraft, carrying Emiliano
Sala and pilot David Ibbotson, went down over the English Channel near Alderney last month, flying from Nantes to Cardiff.
