When a new version of Android is released it has to be tested by the manufacturer who makes your smartphone, such as Samsung, LG or Sony. Once they have run their tests it is then pushed to
mobile operators for a final check before it’s finally made available to customers. This means it can take months before updates become officially ready for consumers. Android Oreo was
released in August and Samsung has only just finished its Oreo beta testing. Because Apple produces both software and hardware it’s much more simple for the US technology firm to get the
latest updates to its army of fans 2016 saw iOS 10 installed on 60 per cent of devices by October and iOS 9 had been installed on 67 per cent of phones and tablets just a few months after
launch. iOS 11 brings a number of improvements to Apple devices including a new control centre, improved Maps, better Siri integration and new photography features. Perhaps the biggest
change comes to the iPad which now gets a dock to store all your favourite apps and features improved multitasking.
