Samsung has started 2024 with a bang by officially confirming the existence of the Galaxy S24 series of phones, labelling them ‘revolutionary’ and teasing their new AI capabilities. The
smartphones will launch on 17 January at a Samsung Unpacked event held in San Jose, California. “A revolutionary mobile experience is coming,” Samsung teased on its website. “Get ready to
discover a new era full of possibilities with the latest Galaxy innovations, designed to transform how you live, connect and create. The new Galaxy S series will set a higher standard for
the most intelligent mobile experience yet.” The post contains a looped video with a box turning into stars that then circles golden text that says ‘Galaxy AI is coming’, confirming Samsung
as the latest technology giant to throw its hat into the artificial intelligence ring. Express.co.uk recently reported on rumours the Galaxy S24 could have new AI features such as live voice
translation on calls and AI-generated wallpapers like we’ve seen on the Google Pixel 8. It’s also possible the phones will be able to edit photos, erase objects in them, or extend
backgrounds using AI - though it’s not clear if Samsung will use its own tools or share them with Google, whose Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro already do many of these things within the Google
Photos app. Most Samsung phones ship with Samsung’s Gallery app as well as Google Photos, so it’s possible the company wants to push its own AI tools. “On January 17, Samsung Electronics
will host Unpacked in San Jose. Join us as we unveil the latest premium Galaxy innovations, providing an all-new mobile experience powered by AI,” Samsung said. The whole event will be
streamed live at 6pm UK time on the day via Samsung’s YouTube channel. Details on the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra have leaked extensively over the past few months. It’s likely all
three will have flat screens but similar overall designs to the Galaxy S23 series, with triple cameras on the regular models and quad lenses on the Ultra. The Ultra is also said to use the
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, while in the UK the S24 and S24 Plus will use Samsung’s own Exynos chipsets - a decision that has irked Samsung fans in the past who see the Snapdragon
as superior. Samsung usually only put allegedly better Qualcomm chips in US models of its Galaxy S phones.
