Social distancing rules have been enforced in supermarkets in line with government guidance. While the rules have stated Britons should stay two metres apart, the government issued an update
on this yesterday. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson explained a "one metre plus" rule will be enforced in England from July 4. Britons will need to stay at least one metre
apart, further if at all possible. While supermarkets may update their policies in line with this, there are already many social distancing measures in stores. READ MORE: TESCO, ASDA,
MORRISONS AND SAINSBURY'S PRIORITY SHOPPING RULES TESCO When visiting the supermarket chain, shoppers were asked to wipe down their trolleys and baskets with sanitising equipment that
is provided. There could be queues outside branches due to a limit on how many people can visit at one time. In line with the current two metre rule, signs have been put up to remind
customers of this. The Tesco website said: "Our priority is the safety of customers and colleagues. Following guidance from the Government to maintain social distancing of two metres,
we’ve introduced some signs in stores to help you get around our stores more quickly, while following the latest safety advice." ASDA Asda has also introduced limits on how many people
can enter a store and members of staff monitor this at the entrance. DON'T MISS It is advised that only one person from each household visits at a time to help customers keep a
distance. New cleaning measures have also been put into place to limit the spread of bacteria. It's website states: "Just as you are at home, we are making every effort to try and
help limit the spread of bacteria and viruses and have put additional cleaning materials in our stores. "We have also asked our cleaners to focus on cleaning more frequently in the
‘high traffic’ areas. "To make it easier for our customers to clean trollies and baskets before you use them, we are topping up the cleaning stations in our foyers even more
regularly." SAINSBURY'S Queues could be likely at Sainsbury's as it limits the number of people in stores. The supermarket will regularly update stock to ensure everyone can
pick up what they need at any time, encouraging shoppers to visit at different times throughout the day. A Sainsbury’s spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “We are working hard to keep our
shelves well stocked so that customers can arrive at any point during store open hours and find most of the items that they need.” MORRISONS While there are limits on how many can enter the
store, shoppers can avoid long queues with the introduction of two lanes. The supermarket chain has created a second 'speedy shopper' lane for those who only need to pick up a few
items. Morrisons has also encouraged customers to visit later in the day in order to avoid a rush of people in the mornings. ALDI Aldi stores have been fitted with signs asking shoppers to
keep a safe distance. Its website said: "Following recent government advice regarding social distancing, we will be implementing a marker system in store, to encourage customers and
colleagues to keep a two metres distance from each other." A traffic light system has also been installed outside stores to monitor who is entering and leaving the stores. LIDL Like
most supermarkets, it is also restricting the number of customers who can visit at one time. Once inside, posts have been put up to remind shoppers to keep a distance while picking up their
groceries. The retailers have been putting more safety measures into place during the pandemic. These have followed the guidance given by the government.
