Researchers at Osaka-based Sanyo Electric have recently unveiled, what they claim as the world's first commercially available 'non-glasses' three-dimensional (3-D) computer
screen. The trick involved in creating an illusion of three dimensions when only two are there requires that each human eye should see a slightly different image from the other. The device,
thicker than a conventional liquid crystal display, can be viewed from many angles and gives the impression of looking into a box around 20 cm deep. The real big money for 3-D displays will
be in video games and television advertising. And it will still take some time for Sanyo to squeeze the cost down to affordable limits.
