Featuring lower thermal requirements and updated graphics, expect these new processors to make their way into desktops and laptops over the rest of this year Intel announced a range of 10
processors spanning desktops and laptops, as part of their updated Broadwell lineup At the Computex 2015 tradeshow, currently underway in Taipei, Intel took the wraps off a range of new
desktop and mobile processors that are built around a lower 65-watt and 47-watt power envelope respectively, with higher performance compared to their predecessors. New in these processors
is their ‘Iris Pro’ graphics platform that supposedly delivers up to 35 percent higher media performance and 2x greater greater graphics performance compared to their previous 4th generation
processors. The lower thermal requirements of these five new desktop processors will facilitate newer and slimmer desktop form factors for mini PCs and desktop all-in-ones (those computers
having everything integrated into the monitor frame.) These new desktop processors are based on the LGA form factor which is especially favoured by gaming and DIY enthusiasts as the
processor can be bought off the shelf and integrated onto compatible motherboards of their choice. The five new mobile processors have a 47-watt thermal design point while offering better
compute performance especially for gamers and mobile content creators. these mobile processors offer up to 95 percent better media performance and up to 2x 3D graphics performance compared
to the current generation 15-watt 5th generation processors. These new processors comprise their updated Broadwell processor lineup. Desktop and laptops based on these processors are slated
to be available within the next 30 to 60 days. At the Intel keynote during the event, Kirk Skaugen (Senior Vice President, General Manager PC Client Group) also announced that their 6th
Generation Core processors would be appearing by the end of this year, with a promise that “Windows 10 will be utilized to the fullest” with the new processor family. Interestingly, of the
SKU of desktop processors, all of these are quad-core parts with the i5 variants having four threads while the i7 parts have eight threads. In the new mobile processors, all but one have
their new Intel Pro graphics 6200, but the i7-5700HQ settles with the earlier generation Intel HD graphics 5600 graphics.
