TRÉVELO AND VIGER-KOHLER MASTERPLANS VAST HOUSING PROJECT IN PARIS photography by julien lanoo THE VAST HOUSING PROJECT ON RUE DE LOURMEL BY FRENCH ARCHITECTS AND URBANISTS TRÉVELO AND

VIGER-KOHLER HAS BEEN COMPLETED IN THE HEART OF PARIS’ 15TH ARRONDISSEMENT.  composed of three different buildings- each featuring two programs, they stand on a site that was previously a

disused factory. the architecture of the complexes explores the limits between the typological variations, their wider situation and their contrasting uses. this has resulted in their

contrasting façade styles, scale and material use which has inherently created the three heterogeneous structures within this diverse parisian neighborhood. site diagram illustrating the

FURTHEST AWAY FROM THE OTHER TWO STRUCTURES, THE COMPACT, RECTANGULAR VOLUME CONTAIN 30 HOUSING UNITS ALONG WITH A COMMERCIAL SPACE ON THE GROUND FLOOR. a cantilevered overhang marks the

entrance to the 30 apartments spreading over eight levels where internally, offers a straightforward floor plan with an open-plan kitchen which can be partitioned off to extend the space of

the living room. drawing influence from the traditional parisian workshop buildings, each apartment has large windows which open up entirely while allowing a connection between the

surroundings and the residents all of which is finished off with the exterior cladded with a durable, transparent glass material. the distinctive façade used is a glass material that is easy

to maintain image © julien lanoo the public square that is in between the two complexes image © julien lanoo THE HEART: SEPARATED BY A MAIN PUBLIC SQUARE, THE TWO EXPANSIVE STRUCTURES ARE

DEFINED BY THE IDEA OF A CONSTRUCTED LANDSCAPE. different in situation and use, firstly, the west building is seen wrapped in an enameled glass and aluminum. this material combination is

easy to maintain but also provides luminosity and reflected light to the surrounding flats. catering for the young and old, the space serves as a retirement home, a nursery and a day center

for the homeless and simultaneously, they hope to convey a open and pleasant ambience. the west building: a building for the young and the old image © julien lanoo a room within the
