completed ‘katsurazaka house’, a single family residence in kyoto, japan. the solution to a neighborhood trend of monotonous housing due to strict building regulations, this dwelling’s


dominant roof form contains the living, dining and sleeping quarters. positioned on a corner lot, the east side of the roof structure is enclosed with a glass facade unveiling views of the


city to inhabitants while the southern elevation is opaque to block urban sounds and views through to the interior. roof an open ground floor surfaced with concrete is opened with a ceiling


void to the upper level, entirely clad with wood boards. warm colored wooden risers guides individuals to the combined living and dining space presenting dramatic views of the urban


landscape. a dark red hued wood is contrasted with the exposed framing elements made from light colored pine. bifold panels open ground level floor plan stairs to living space and bedrooms
