On the heels of the news that Showtime will no longer make current series available for streaming on Netflix, fellow pay cable network Starz said today that it will delay making new episodes
available on its Play Starz broadband service carried by Netflix, Qwest and Verizon for 90 days after each episode’s premiere. The network said that it will also implement a similar measure
for its premiere movies, though Starz subscribers will continue to have unrestricted access to both new episodes and movies on Starz’s own platform Starz Online. “Beginning with the April 1
premiere of the new original drama Camelot, new episodes of Starz originals will now be available on the Starz Play services 90 days after they debut on the network, with exclusive
first-run movies later following suit,” Starz said in a statement. Past seasons of Starz series, including Spartacus, and previously aired movies will continue to be available for streaming.
Authenticated Starz subscribers will still have full access to all current network programming through Starz Online. Starz’s current deal with Netflix is up at the end of the year.
