23:06, 07 Jun 2025 Wetherspoons is the worst place to go on a first date with almost half ending in disaster, a poll found. Researchers found 46% of first dates at one of the pub chains 800
boozers goes wrong. Young people have had the biggest first date disaster in the pub with 63% of Generation Z - those aged 16 to 26 - saying a date has turned their nose up at the date
choice. A further 53% of Millennials - those aged 27 to 42 - said the same followed by 44% of Generation X - those aged 43 to 58. But Baby Boomers - those aged 59 and over - said they have
had good first dates in the pub with just 23% regretting their choice. Those who had been on a first date at the pub said it showed their new partner hadn’t put enough enough into coming
with a “special” venue. Sylvia Linzalone, from dating site Wisp, who carried out the research, said: “You don’t have to splash out on something extravagant, but a first date should feel
considered. Article continues below “What one person thinks is quirky the other sees as concerning. “Stick to neutral, conversation-friendly spots if you’re unsure such as a coffee shop or
maybe just a stroll in a park. “Keep it casual until you find out more about each other.” A date in a McDonald’s or other first food restaurant such as Burger King was the cause of Britain’s
second biggest number of first date disasters with 39% saying so. Museums and art galleries came third with 24% having given them the thumbs down followed in fourth place by going shopping
on 18%. Going to see a horror film came fifth on 14%. The dating app Wisp, which aims to get singletons going on real dates instead of virtual dates, asked 1,200 UK adults where there worst
first dates had been to come up with the findings. Going to a sporting event is the sixth worst choice for a first date with 13% saying they have gone wrong followed by an all-you-can-eat
buffet in seventh place on 6%. A gym visit or fitness class came eighth on 5% with a trip to a cemetery in ninth place on 1%. WORST FIRST DATES BY LOCATION: Wetherspoons - 46% Fast food
