
Ventura : council oks bike span over freeway

The Ventura City Council has voted to build a bike and pedestrian bridge over California 126 that would connect neighborhoods around Camino Real Park and Citadel Avenue. The exact site for
the bridge will be decided when the city has the money to build the span, City Planner Mitch Oshinsky said. “It’s at least three years away,” Oshinsky said. About 20 residents of the
Patrician Mobile Home Park near Camino Real Park attended the council meeting Monday to protest the bridge, saying it would lead to more crime because accessibility to their neighborhood by
youths who frequent the park would increase. Parents from other neighborhoods spoke in favor of the bridge, saying it would stop children from going through the park on their way to and from
Elmhurst Elementary School. The bridge would provide a direct route to the school, Oshinsky said. The council voted Monday to include the bridge as part of the city’s Select System of
